Children's Continence Services

Summary

The Nurse led Children's (Paediatric) Continence Service provides specialist treatment, management, advice and support for children and young people with a bladder or bowel dysfunction. The service has the overall responsibility for the provision and supply of continence products.

Service Information

Where the service is based:

The service has an administrator based at The Old Pharmacy at Rochford Hospital.

The service is offered in various community clinics in South East and South West Essex or by telephone if appropriate.

Clinics are also offered in Special Schools.

How to contact the service:

Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays)- 08.30 to 16.30

The administration telephone line is staffed from 08:00 - 13:00 Monday to Friday, with 24-hour voicemail facility.

Referral Information

We accept referrals from GP's, health visitors, school nurses and paediatricians for children aged between 4 and 18 years who are registerd with a GP in Southend, Rayleigh, Rochford, Basildon, Brentwood, Billericay or Thurrock.

Electronic Referral via SystmOne is preferred (EPUT Paediatric Community Nurses-Paediatric Continence) but we also accept accept letters from GP and pediatricians, and completed referral forms by post or email.

Referral Criteria:

Children aged 4 to 18 years old who are registered with a GP in Southend, Rayleigh, Rochford, Basildon, Brentwood, Billericay or Thurrock.

Children who require support with bladder and bowel problems including;

  • night time wetting
  • daytime wetting
  • delayed toileting
  • constipation and soiling

Advice and support with containment products 

Support with training for health and school staff for bladder and bowel management.

Exclusions from service:

  • children under 4 years or over 18 years old
  • children out of area
