Specialist Psychosis Service: Derwent Centre

You have been diagnosed with a psychotic illness and therefore referred to us for specialist care and treatment to set you on the road to recovery.

Psychosis is a general term used to describe a number of symptoms, some of which are:

• False beliefs/delusions such as paranoia and suspiciousness
• Hallucinations such as experiencing things that are not really there – voices, smells or seeing things
• Confused thinking such as racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating
• Changed feelings such as mood swings, depression, anxiety
• Changed behaviours such as being unable to sleep, poor appetite or overeating.

There are different types of psychosis such as:

• Bipolar
• Schizophrenia
• Psychotic depression
• Drug induced psychosis
• Schizoaffective disorder
