The Level 5 HND Assistant Practitioner Programme is the equivalent qualification to that of the Foundation Degree Associate Practitioner programme. This is delivered in house within EPUT by the EPUT Education Team.

The Apprenticeship lasts approximately 24 months and is an academic qualification achieving 240 credits. Requirements to apply for the HND are:

  • English & Maths (GCSE C Grade or above, grade 4–9, or alternatively Functional Skills Level 2), all must be proven with certificates
  • Level 3 health and social care or equivalent science based qualification.
  • Completed Care Certificate

The programme has the requirement for 480 hours Guided learning / academic study hours per year and includes 1 study day per week which is delivered in a blended learning approach as a mixture of Teams sessions and face to face which will be in our training rooms, 3 weeks alternative placement per year plus additional study days which support the programme. There are academic assignments set throughout the year and there has to be a commitment to undertake study within your own time to complete assignments /reading/ research and self-directed learning.

We also have annual leave days / weeks set  within the programme and advise students that unless there are exceptional circumstances regarding leave that additional annual leave days should not unless previously agreed by the programme team and your manager be taken off from the weekly course study days . During the course there would be one study day per week over two years, with the designated day remaining fixed throughout the 24 month period and once the programme is completed the apprentices will undertake an End Point Assessment.

Apprentices will require a practice supervisor from their own work area and will be allocated an academic Assessor from the apprenticeship team who will also be their personal tutor.  Observations in practice would also be performed on apprentices by the assessor and their practice supervisor. There is a practice learning and development document which is completed throughout each year and contributes towards the assessment of student learning .Achievement of the Level 5 qualification would enable staff to apply to APEL into the degree nurse apprenticeship 2+2 model with our partner Universities and continue your progression in Healthcare. Alternatively, you could apply for a role as an Assistant Practitioner within the Trust.

There is normally one cohort for the programme yearly.  All candidates will be required to attend an interview/assessment day prior to the beginning of the course.
